Set in the world’s largest river red gum forest, the centre offers visitors the opportunity to participate in authentic Aboriginal tourism.
With recent upgrades across the precinct, along with renewed partnerships with Visit Victoria and regional operators, Dharnya is fast becoming a destination of choice for those who want guided cultural education experiences.
Dharnya Centre business development manager Garry Armstrong said the centre’s recent transformation catered to travellers seeking cultural engagement experiences.
“The precinct is becoming a living classroom and cultural meeting place,” he said.
“We are seeing schools, outdoor education groups, corporate groups and independent travellers booking experiences that create genuine connection to Country. It’s a shift from passive tourism to active cultural engagement.”
The Dharnya team is offering people a taste of what the precinct will have to offer in the future through its three flagship experiences — the Kingfisher Cruises, Yamyabuc Trail and cultural education sessions.
The Kingfisher will take visitors on a 90-minute Yorta Yorta-guided journey along the Dhungala River where they will gain rare insights into culture, Country and ecology while surrounded by globally significant wetlands.
As seats are limited, visitors are encouraged to check the Dharnya Centre website for availability.
Visitors will be able to enjoy guided educational experiences hosted by Dharnya team members, including Ralph Hume.
There is currently a limited-time spring offer of cruises from 10.30am and 1pm on Saturday, October 11, Saturday, October 25 and Saturday, November 1.
Visitors interested in the Yamyabuc Trail will take a one-hour guided walk to learn the stories of the land, scar trees and living heritage that define Yorta Yorta’s enduring custodianship.
For those wanting a deeper education and experience, they can sign up for the half-day or full-day cultural education sessions.
The tailored group programs led by Yorta Yorta Elders and Knowledge Holders will include deeper cultural education, hands-on activities and intergenerational knowledge sharing in a residential or day-visit format.
As the precinct develops further, the Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation is committed to ensuring visitors leave with unforgettable memories and a deeper understanding of Yorta Yorta culture and knowledge systems.
