The 57th ranked player in Australia, Holt-Crossman took out the Fosterville Gold Classic AMT in the middle of April, as well as claiming a double win with partner Ryan Laubser at the Mornington Peninsula Easter Gold AMT.
Carrying the two seed at the Bendigo tournament, he breezed through his opening two rounds, dropping a total of eight games in consecutive straight sets victories.
He came into his first major challenge against nine seed Kevin Cheruiyot in the quarter final, claiming the opening set before losing the second in a tie-break.
He recovered to claim the third set to set up a semi-final against fifth seed Timmy Karpinski.
It was as easy as they come for Holt-Crossman, winning the match 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the final against eight seed Ryan Laubser.
It would be another straight sets win for the 21-year-old, claiming the tournament 6-3, 7-5.
Holt-Crossman said changing his focus around the sport had played a key role in his recent success.
‘‘I’ve been working on removing some distractions from around my game,’’ he said.
‘‘I’ve done the extra work physically in the way I train for the sport, but I’ve had to work harder on the mental side of my game. I’ve put in a lot of work on my focus and making sure I am on top of the game in the way I approach it.
‘‘Part of it has been undertaking some meditation, which has helped me to strengthen my mental capabilities. It may not seem a lot, but when I am getting into moments of pressure on the court I am able to clear my mind better than I have in the past, which has really helped my game.’’
