GLAM is hoping to fund projects that encourage gender diversity within sporting clubs.
Northern District Community Health was one of the many organisations GLAM partnered with to offer the grants, and chief executive Mandy Hutchinson said it was an important step towards gender parity.
“The initiative is a great way to create environments where women feel safe, valued and welcomed to participate equally,” she said.
“Sporting clubs are in a unique position to influence attitudes and behaviours towards women and girls.”
Projects the initiative want to fund include holding women sports rounds, training and leadership opportunities aimed at women and girls, and profiling women and girls within the club.
Installing adequate lighting to help women feel safer at night at the facility, and messaging targeting recruiting more women and girls are other suggestions.
Projects will not be approved if they are not alcohol- and drug-free or if they do not encourage ‘’all abilities’’.
The new grants program is supported by NDCH, Gannawarra Shire Council, Kerang District Hospital, Cohuna District Health, Mallee District Aboriginal Services, Victoria Police, Mallee Family Care, Murray Primary Health Network, Southern Mallee Prevention and Population Health team and Mallee Family Violence Executive.
Applications close on Thursday, June 30, and, if successful, grants are to be spent by Friday, October 28.
