The program aims to support the community to preserve heritage items within the shire.
With a total of $10,500 available under the grants round, six applications were received, seeking a total of $33,996.
Three applications were deemed successful under the 2020/21 program.
Moama Cemetery was awarded $2596 under the program for the next stage of development of the Moama Cemetery Path of Remembrance.
The overall project includes the installation of a series of plinths and plaques, each bearing the name and date of death of persons who were buried in the cemetery in unmarked graves, supporting the ongoing efforts to build on the town’s local history.
Moulamein Community Development was awarded $5000 for the Old Dhuragoon School Restoration which includes painting and the replacement of the old frames around the windows.
St James Church in Moama will also receive a facelift thanks to $2900 of funding which will support the paint and repair of the fascia boards, windowsills and down pipes.
Adverse Event planning
WITH councillors endorsing a new Adverse Event Plan, Murray River Council is now looking to appoint an advisory group to provide further recommendations to council.
The plan was developed to improve preparation for and recovery from adverse events, with the development of an advisory group flagged as a priority initiative in the plan.
The group would identify the likelihood of adverse events in each community across the council area and offer recommendations to council as required.
Several councillors will also hold positions on the group.
An adverse event can be a drought, flood, earthquake, storm, biosecurity or health pandemic event.
