But the raffle organisers understand that not everyone has the luxury of knowing where their next meal will be coming from.
That’s why they have chosen to donate proceeds from the meat raffle to the St Vincent de Paul’s St Michael’s Conference in Deniliquin.
White Lion Social Club member Brenda Sutton said the $2000 donation is intended to help “our local Vinnies” purchase food to feed the homeless and those in need.
“The cheque was presented to Daph Greaves, who works tirelessly for Vinnies,” Mrs Sutton said.
“Thank you to our wonderful social club members and the patrons of the White Lion Hotel for the support you give at our Friday night meat raffles.
“Without you, donations to our community would not be possible.”
The St Vincent de Paul Society has been assisting communities all over the world for almost 200 years, having been founded in 1833.
The organisation’s vision is to “help all with understanding and without judgement”.
Stocked at the St Vincent de Paul Shop in Napier St, Deniliquin is clothing, food, and other essentials so that people who cannot afford the regular prices that big stores charge have the things they need to survive.
The St Michael’s Conference can also assist those struggling to meet household expenses.
