Apart from chasing Australia’s number one ranking players will also be fighting for places in the Australian team for the World Championship of Darts at the Alexandria Palace in London in December.
From today until Sunday, 130 Australasian players will converge on the Sporties Barooga to participate in four tournaments, including a knockout event tonight, two knockouts tomorrow and a round robin on Sunday.
Sporties Group chief executive Bobby Brooks said his club could not “wait to host this fantastic event’’.
‘‘I urge anyone who can get here to come and watch the players in action,’’ Brooks said. “Darts is massive now, especially on Fox Sports with players such as Simon ‘the Wizard’ Whitlock and Kyle ‘the Original’ Anderson, both who have played on this tour generating huge followings,” he said.
The event is supported by Cobram Barooga Business and Tourism and its chairman Don Rudd said “the darts will inject more than $100,000 into the local economy’’.
Some of the players participating include former World Championship representatives GG Mathers, Raymond Smith and James Bailey while World Series of Darts players Damon Heta, Tic Bridge and Tim Pusey from Australia and Ben Robb and Haupai Puha from New Zealand and former World Youth Championship representatives Robbie King, Steve Fitzpatrick and Ryan Lynch will be competing.
The action runs from 4.30-9.30pm today; 10am-8pm tomorrow and 10am-3pm Sunday.
