Established in 2019, the Echuca gallery has been under the dutiful care of Ali Farrell for two years, but she has decided to not renew her lease, which expires in June.
Alan Davidson, one of the organisers of the final exhibit, said it would run all month.
“Ali offered us the opportunity to run an exhibition for the month of May, and we took it on with nine days’ warning,” he said.
“I have managed to gather 25 different artists with more than 200 pieces of original art, and we thought it we got 50 to 80 we’d be doing well.
“We’ve had to clear out all of the existing art and pack that away and then we had to get the place cleaned and start hanging, labelling and pricing.
“It’s looking really good. We’ve got five different areas within the gallery.”
Mr Davidson said most of the artists were from Echuca-Moama, with some coming from Melbourne, Ballarat and Shepparton.
“We’ve got a price range of everything from $35 to $1500, but our average is sitting around $250 to $300,” he said.
“We’ve got a chance to do this for one month only, so we’re going to have the gallery open for 31 days straight. We’re having the gallery open every single day right through to May 30, we’re not closing at all.”
The final exhibit at the Customs House Gallery opened on Saturday night and will be on display at 2 Leslie St, Echuca, in the Port area, from 10am until 4pm daily until May 30.
