Director of sustainability Michael Sharp said the initiative supported campers and protected local landscapes.
“Each year, we provide skip bins in high-use locations to manage the increase in waste. We’re thrilled to welcome visitors, but not the rubbish they may leave behind,” he said.
“Our contractors will empty the bins regularly, but if a bin is full, please don’t leave rubbish on the ground as it creates hazards for people and wildlife.”
The council’s resource recovery centres accept campers’ waste free of charge, and residents are reminded the bins are strictly for visitors, not household rubbish.
Over the Christmas and new year period, the bins will be available at Echuca East Boat Ramp, Victoria Park, Torrumbarry Roadhouse and Gunbower Recreation Reserve.
Locals and visitors are encouraged to use the recovery centres for a wide range of disposal options, with opening hours and locations available at campaspe.vic.gov.au/rrc
Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme can also be accessed to reduce waste and earn rewards, with more information available at cdsvic.org.au/locations
