She created the project following the death of Jill Meagher in Melbourne as a way to spark conversations about ending violence.

Mr McDougal said he had made at least 6000 stars.

“It takes me about five minutes to weave each individual star,” he said.

This means that Mr McDougal has spent about 30,000 minutes weaving stars.

Mr McDougal said he hoped the stars could be exhibited in the community and used as a symbol of hope for those who had been impacted by violence.

“I was hoping they could be put on display at the Echuca Freight Centre, near the railway station,” he said.

“I think the freight centre could be an ideal location because it’s a large, unused building that could be better utilised.

“The stars could make the freight centre a tourism attraction.”

Mr McDougal said he was hoping to get in touch with Campaspe Shire Council about his idea in the near future.
