And while it wasn't technically Moama's first win for the 2019 Murray Football League season, it definitely felt like it for the players.
Down 12 points at the final change, kicking into the wind and with a history of falling just short all working against them, Moama produced a three-goal to one final quarter against Rumbalara to break through for its second win of the season, getting over the line by two points.
While the Magpies had claimed a win in round 12 against Tungamah after a storm ended the game just after half-time, Magpies coach Luke Eldridge said this was the moment his team had been waiting for.
"It really felt like our first win," he said.
"You could feel the energy around not only the group, but really around the whole football club, there was a great feeling about what we had done.
"There is a sense of relief about what we achieved. There was obviously a lot of excitement, but the relief was huge. We've had a lot of good showings this year where we haven't gotten the reward for effort, so to get the win was fantastic."
Moama have lost four games by less than 15 points this season, so while Moama have long been out of the race for finals, Eldridge says his team has always had something to look towards.
"We went into the last few weeks of the season as a mini finals season for the group," he said.
"We believed we were a chance to possibly get a win on the board in the final weeks of the season, and this game was one of them. We played some pretty good football and it kept us in touch up until the final quarter.
"It was a challenge in the last quarter, but we knew if we could keep our effort up and really work hard in the final quarter we were a real shot at getting over the line, and we were able to do so."
With an inconsistent Barooga on the horizon this week - a side Moama played well against for all but one quarter in round six - and Katandra in the final round, Moama are starting to look to the future.
"We're thinking of these final weeks as a platform for next year," Eldridge said.
"The young guys at our club have had a lot of game time against the better sides in the competition, which is great for their development and for what they can produce next year.
"We've started having the conversations and are confident in retaining close to our entire list, possibly losing some due to travel commitments, but we think we can keep our group together and continue to build."
