Today's meeting marks the first of a busy four-week block for the club as it prepares to host three meetings, concluding with the Melbourne Cup event next month.
An eight-race card will kick off proceedings with 10 horses from several local trainers in action.
The seventh race of the day, the $22,000 Border Inn Hotel BM58 Handicap over 1200m, will include Jim Lake's Rose of Capri.
Since returning from a 21-week spell the six-year-old mare has been in scintillating form, recording two wins from three starts.
Rose of Capri's most recent success came at the Gunbower Gold Cup meeting, winning the last race of the day and Lake said he expected his horse to be within touching distance of the lead.
“She's in very good form and I think that comes down to her maturing,” Lake said.
“There are some good horses in the race so she will need to be near her best if she is to win. We're lucky she has drawn nicely because that should help our chances.”
Lake's focus will also be on the last race of the day, the $22,000 Independent Cranes VRC Grand Handicap Race 3, as Honorellay attempts to go one better after two straight second place finishes.
“We probably need a bit of luck after the last two races,” Lake said.
“He's been unlucky to cop a couple of slight bumps at critical times so hopefully he can continue to finish races strongly like he has the past few times.”
Daryl Archard will have the strongest local representation with four horses — Blue Jangles, Dry Country, Mr Integrity and Zoeasy.
Meanwhile Mount Isa and Tumult are set to represent Rhys Archard.
The team of Mick Cornish and Donna Gaskin will have Star of Man as their sole runner as Flying Batya prepares to fly the flag for Gwenda Johnstone.
