Echuca Moama had a great day on the courts last Friday and the weather was very pleasant.
Everyone had a great time outside in the sunshine.
Jumping John Tarrant got two jump shots along with Russell Smythe — well done boys.
Helen played well and got a hoop in one.
Young John Tarrant had a birthday last Saturday.
He turned 85, he plays an extremely good game and does well on his jump shots.
The club had a cake for John and wished him a happy birthday.
The winner on Friday was Russell Smythe as he won all of his games.
On Monday, the weather was very enjoyable for playing croquet and all members are enjoying being outside while they can.
Jumping Johnnie Tarrant was on the ball again with two jump shots.
It must have been his day getting the shots and also getting a birthday cake.
Well done to John.
Our winner for the day was John Graham winning his three games with a nett hoop score of 16.
We had five other players winning two games each and were all very close.
Everyone is staying well and doing the right thing.
Good work to all our members.
It won’t be long before we can all get back to normal.
Good luck to all our croquet players.
Rich River
There has been no play for the past week as the croquet courts have been going through their annual renovation.
Club members appreciate the efforts of acting greens superintendent Tim Leat and his team whose work means that Rich River’s courts are in enviable condition all year round.
In the first step the courts were scarified in two directions to a depth of 15mm.
During scarification the hollow tines of the machine pull out a plug of thatch to allow air, nutrients, and water to reach the roots of the grass.
The lawns are then cored by 12mm round blades sunk to a depth of 75mm.
The plugs are then collected and the lawns are top dressed with a mixture of sand, fertiliser and calcium.
After the mixture is rubbed into the courts, the excess is gathered into rows, scooped up and removed.
The result of this work will be deeper roots which will help the grass cope with more extreme heat in the summer.
We have been blessed by good weather during this work and Tim is very pleased with the results to date.
The club also appreciates the hard work of members Dave Maher and Alan Holding who have been busy repainting the lines for the courts and measuring out and reinstalling the hoops.
The Victorian members are looking forward to returning to play next week once the border restrictions are relaxed.
In the meantime they have been grateful for the hospitality of the Echuca Moama Croquet Club for including Rich River members in their Friday play.
