A partnership between Disability Sports Australia and the Murray River Council and Campaspe Shire Council, the Abilities Unleashed Sports Day will be held on October 15 at Echuca Stadium, 244 High St.
Two sessions will be held during the day, first for adults from 10am to noon, and then for children aged five to 18 from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.
The event aims to show participants living with a disability the options for active living within the local community and kickstart their ‘active journey’.
Participants will take part in a selection of modified sports, including wheelchair rugby, netball and cricket, with adaptive equipment on hand to suit individual needs.
Specialised coaches and volunteers will assist in the running of the event.
“It’s about making sure everyone has the chance to be active, have fun, and feel part of something. Events like this help break down barriers and show what’s possible when we come together,” Campaspe Shire Mayor Daniel Mackrell said.
“We’re proud to support an event that opens doors for people living with disability to explore new activities and build confidence through sport.”
Murray River Council Mayor John Harvie echoed his cross-river counterpart.
“Abilities Unleashed shows how sport can unite people of all abilities and inspire people to stay active, connect with others and feel confident to keep participating well into the future,” he said.
Registrations for the event are essential and can be made on the Activate Inclusion website.
