Martine Dermietzel and Craig Jordan, who is on the comeback trail after a career-threatening injury, emerged victorious by defeating Luca Macheda and Jason Bassett to claim the 2026 title. Congratulations went to both teams for making the final of such a prestigious event.
Club Mulwala’s Autumn Triples Championship has also commenced for 2026. Teams of three compete in singles matches, with the final contested between the two highest points scorers after a full round of competition. No clear favourite has emerged at this stage, although all players are thoroughly enjoying the annual event.
Ayden Ballantyne collected his first Monthly Challenge victory when he prevailed over Michael Barclay on 4 May. Ayden joined the club with a pool background and is rapidly adapting his skills to the club’s version of cue-sport competition. Michael is also in strong form, having posted several excellent recent results.
Wednesday evening social events continue to attract strong support, with many competitions decided through doubles contests. The experienced and crafty pairing of Jason Bassett and Darren Edwards defeated Luca Macheda and Daryl McKernan in one such event on 22 April. The irrepressible Kevin Young prevailed over the in-form Marty Dermietzel on 29 April, while “Mr Wednesday Night” Michael Barclay edged out Luca Macheda on 6 May.
As highlighted on the Club Mulwala website, members’ newsletter and the Club Mulwala Snooker Club Facebook page, new members and anyone interested in giving snooker a try are always welcome. Club Mulwala continues to sponsor the snooker club generously, ensuring excellent value for money for players.
A variety of events are held every Monday and Wednesday evening, with plenty of opportunities for new players to join in or try the club’s facilities. The club features two excellently maintained full-size tables, both recently resurfaced, along with a new state-of-the-art lighting system.
The snooker room is available for competition, practice and visitor use, while the club’s regularly updated handicapping system ensures players from beginner to advanced level can compete on equal terms. There are also many experienced and skilled players available to offer advice and tips to help improve players’ games, particularly for those transitioning from pub or social pool.
