A first-half strike and two second-half goals saw the Jaguars top the Raiders to claim their first win of the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League season, while Moama Echuca remains winless.
It was the visiting Jaguars who were doing most of the attacking early on and they took the lead midway through the first half.
The ball was whipped in from out wide and skipped past the Raiders defenders, before a Shepparton player free at the back post tucked his shot into the back of the net.
The Jaguars continued to pressure the home side, but Moama Echuca’s defence held strong for the rest of the half, repelling numerous attacks.
The Border Raiders had a great chance to equalise just before half time. James Mawson made a great run into the box after a ball in behind, but his shot was just wide of the target.
The Raiders changed formations after half time as they went in search of an equaliser. The change seemed to work, with the home side linking up well in the midfield.
But a second Jaguars goal mid-way through the second half dented the hopes of a Border Raiders comeback, before a third goal sealed the three points for the Jaguars.
Craig Danswan and Suresh Gomez were great for the Raiders in defence, making a number of crucial tackles to hold the Jaguars at bay.
Skipper Pat Hicks provided a good target up front, while Mawson and Rishabh Kothari played well on the wings.
A win does not seem far away for the Border Raiders, who have shown improvement in every game so far.
They will hit the road to take on Swan Hill this weekend, with the aim of improving on their 9-0 defeat in round one.
