Moama Echuca’s senior women’s side has picked up its first win in the League Cup after a 4-0 victory over La Trobe University on Sunday.
A hat-trick from Asha Davies and a resolute Border Raiders defence helped Moama Echuca cruise to victory.
The big win is the Raiders’ fourth overall this season and lifts them up to second place in the four-team League Cup standings, a separate competition to the regular season.
Moama Echuca co-captain Jessica Hicks opened the scoring in the first half with her second goal in as many weeks, before Davies found the back of the net twice to have the host up 3-0 at half-time.
Davies then completed her hat-trick late in the second half, netting her third goal of the afternoon to cap off a fantastic performance and 4-0 win.
Down back, centre-backs Maya Cox and Alex Romano, along with Rebecca Douglas and Ryshelle Tay, were impenetrable in defence, keeping the Raiders’ second consecutive clean sheet.
It was the second time the Border Raiders have faced off against La Trobe this season, with the Eagles winning 3-2 back in round one.
Both teams will have a week off over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend before they meet again on June 18, this time in a regular-season match-up.
The Raiders sit fourth in the league standings, two points behind second-placed La Trobe.
