Despite starting slow in its round seven Heathcote District League A-grade netball contest against Elmore, Lockington-Bamawm United came close to snatching the win at the buzzer.
Ultimately, it wasn’t to be for the Cats, but the game wasn’t without its theatre.
Goaling seven times in the opening quarter, the host trailed the Bloods, who put in a 12-goal effort to take a humble five-goal lead at the first break.
LBU shaped up in the second period, drilling 11 goals to stay within striking distance, while Elmore slackened off slightly, adding nine to its total.
With the lead three at the start of the third term, Elmore did just enough to maintain the status quo before three-quarter time, with both sides adding 11 to their respective totals.
Despite having their best attacking quarter of the match with 12 goals to their name, the Cats couldn’t overcome Elmore, which put 13 through the net to take a three-goal victory.
The final score was LBU 41 to Elmore 45.
While the narrow defeat will sting for the Cats, it is the closest they have come to victory this season.
Yet, with a new week comes a new chance to get on the board and round eight will be a good one when the Cats take on North Bendigo on the road.
