We are grateful for all of those who contributed to our ANZAC Day ceremony prior to the Seniors football game and the Rutherglen Football Netball Club want to make special mention of the following people;
Master of ceremonies Tony Jones, assisted by Grace Gonzalez President of the Rutherglen Sub-Branch of the RSL, Craig Williams, for reading the Ode and speaking on behalf of the Rutherglen RSL
Members of Kiewa Sub-Branch of the RSL and Kiewa Sandy Creek President Ross Scammell for your attendance and support.
We were also grateful to be able to present the Bainbridge family with Neville’s own framed Club Blazer to recognise his contribution as a past president of both the Rutherglen Football Netball Club and the Rutherglen RSL Sub-Branch.
Neville was also a key person who was instrumental in getting this day on our calendar. Rutherglen and Kiewa SC were playing for the annual Diffey-Sutherland Shield.
Winners of both football and netball matches were tallied up at the end of the day, then the club with the most wins over the day wins the Shield.
The shield was presented to the KSC president Ross Scammell at the completion of the senior football game, being the last game for the day.

Cats 9-8-62 Def By KSC Hawks 10-20-80
The scene was set for a great battle on the football field as Round 4 saw us come up against last year’s grand finalist team, Kiewa.
After going down by a solitary point the week before, the challenge for our young Cats was to maintain focus on the job at hand and focus they did. In another tight tussle the Cats showed they are more than capable of playing competitive football against the more fancied sides in the competition, with the Cats holding a slender 9-point margin at 3 quarter time.
The final quarter of 5 goals to 1 saw the Cats go down by 18 points. The defense again held strong with Captain, Ben Pleming, playing his first game for the season adding strength to our back 6. We were able to get a lot of drive through our mid field and let our forwards go to work with Jyda House kicking 4 goals in a solid display.
This week we look forward to the drive to Barnawartha to test ourselves against the Tigers.

The Grand final replay was disappointing for our young Under 17s team who got off to a slow start in the first quarter, but a ripping second quarter saw them take the lead by 10 points at half time.
The boys couldn’t keep up with the bigger bodied and faster Kiewa -Sandy Creek boys who took hold of the game in the third quarter adding 5 goals 5 while we remained scoreless and went into the final quarter 25 points down.
The boys rallied in the final quarter but just didn’t have the fire power to catch up, with Kiewa - Sandy Creek taking out the win by 27 points at the final siren.
Goals to Ethan Gregor 2, Harry Chandler 1, Charlie Kafarela 1, Laiton Hetherington 1 and Charlie Poole 1.
A serious hand injury to Eli Keys at the start of the third quarter reduced the size of the backline contributing to Kiewa - Sandy Creek’s dominant play during this quarter.
We wish Eli a speedy recovery and look forward to bouncing back against Barnawartha next week.

The Cats turned in another dominant performance at home in perfect conditions against Kiewa Sandy Creek. Such was the dominance that the majority of the match was played in Rutherglen’s forward half and Kiewa were held to a solitary point.
The momentum started in the middle of the ground with Jax Ramsay performing beautifully in the ruck linking up with Dustin Fisher. Bryce Maloney proved to be a solid focal point up forward slotting through four goals for the match.
Hugo Poole added excitement around the ground bagging a goal and setting up other scoring opportunities.
Ryan Moore bobbed up for a goal, and Callum Potter provided great support on the wing.
There were a number of other goal kickers for the day, and the boys continue to show improvement and a willingness to work hard at training which is paying dividends on game day. Barnawartha awaits us next week.

A strong game from our girls this week, it’s great to see them bringing together our set plays and strong drives. Although the outcome wasn’t what we wanted it was an all-round good game coming out of our centre in to the goals. Great defence work from the girls in the ring who had a tough game, with positive efforts by our two shooters. Can’t wait to see the continued improvement throughout the season.

Cats 5 Def By KSC 53
Award Winners: Nick Meyer – Ivy Rosser, Wax Trade – Taylor Francis, Club – Harper Potter.
Our young Cats lined up against a tall, strong team in the Hawks. Captain Harper led by example, working overtime to create options and work the ball down the court. Ivy moved into defense and read the ball well making the shooters work hard for any goals. Our defensive line up of Ivy, Chelsea, Sophie & Audrey worked hard all game and never gave up, Although our rocket Zara injured her finger during the game, our mid court of Ivy, Zara, Taylor & Erica were fantastic. Attack team of Flick and Harper did not get many options to put goals up, did their best to break through the tough Hawks defense.

The girls achieved their highest score in a game to date and they played amazing, giving it their all, well done.
