Lal Whyte, the club’s media operations manager, said the May carnival was one of three events that the club would be involved in in April and May
“The women’s country carnival will be played here, and at most of the other Campaspe bowls clubs, from April 2-6.
“Then we will be involved, along with Moama Bowling Club, in hosting all 16 regions from Friday, April 8 to Sunday, April 10 for the regional championships,” he said.
Mr Whyte said the club would continue to operate its men’s social bowls on Monday, with a change of time (12.30pm because of daylight savings) and its men’s pairs on Thursday.
He said the club was not conducting any events during the Easter period.
“The first day of the 12-day May carnival is April 25 when we hold the Dan Scott mixed pairs. It used to be a standalone event, but we hold it as the first event of the 12 days to give the carnival a kick-start,” Mr Whyte said.
He said the Dan Scott event had a proud history.
“I’ve been here 17 years and it has been going longer than that,” he said.
A mixed fours is on the following day and mixed triples on April 27.
Then the Thursday is men’s and women’s pairs, followed by mixed fours on the Friday and a mixed pairs medley on Saturday, April 30.
Sunday, May 1 is mixed triples, with mixed fours on Monday and on Tuesday, May 3 the men’s and women’s pairs will be contested.
On Wednesday, May 4 a mixed triples event is scheduled and the Thursday (May 5) is men’s and women’s pairs.
“We have been taking entries since last year. People enter from year to year and are usually involved in the Moama tournament as well (which is immediately after, starting on May 7).
“The carnival dinner will be held at the Echuca Workers’ Club on that evening (Thursday, May 5) and the mixed pairs ends the event on Friday, May 6,” he said.
All events have half-day schedules, leading into another hectic week during the Moama May carnival.
“We support the Moama club by offering up rinks on May 11 (mixed pairs) and May 12. Then again on the following Saturday and Sunday we host more games from the Moama carnival.
“Most people come up and stay for three weeks during that time,” Mr Whyte said
The Echuca Bowls Club annual general meeting ends a hectic period for the club on May 18, which is timely considering the amount of activity that has occurred in the lead-up weeks.
