It gives the Murray Bombers plenty of time to prepare for what could be a season-defining clash with Shepparton this Saturday.
Echuca slipped up for the first time last round against Seymour, but remains in second place with a 6-1 record, chasing the perfect 7-0 Bears.
Whichever side takes the clash, the only meeting between the two this year, will be the early premiership favourite.
The last time the clubs met with such high stakes was in the 2024 grand final, a memorable 96-point win by the Murray Bombers.
After an injury-hit 2025, Echuca is looking to return to the heights of its treble dynasty from a few years back, and would take a big step towards that with a win this week in Shepparton.
The Bears numerically boast the best defence this year, giving up only 326 points through seven games, while their 744 points scored trails only premier Kyabram.
The Murray Bombers also have fellow top six hopefuls Shepparton Swans and Mansfield on the horizon in the next month, as well as a clash with struggler Euroa.
On the netball court, Echuca’s clash with the Bears looks equally as meaningful as the sides at the top jockey for position.
Euroa has the running right now, a perfect 7-0, but Echuca and Shepparton, with Mooroopna, are two of the 6-1 chasers looking to knock the Magpies off their perch.
The Murray Bombers’ strong percentage indicates better results than the Bears going in and Echuca boasts the league’s best defence.
If the local side can stand up to the Bears it will earn a significant confidence boost heading into the midway point of the year.
