Echuca Moama Hockey Club has secured second place in the Goulburn Valley Hockey Association B-grade women’s competition with a thrilling win over Benalla.
Two goals to Jacquelyn Taylor and another starring performance from River Rats star Sarah-Jane Taylor inspired their side to a 3-2 victory, rounding out the regular season with their eighth win.
The duo was well supported by Rachael Costello, rebounding quickly from an upset loss to Euroa the week before.
Echuca Moama has now won four of its last five games, and will take some solid form into GVHA finals.
The Rats B-grade men also look poised for finals action, placed third in the competition with five wins.
Meanwhile, GVHA junior finals got under way at the weekend, with Echuca Moama represented by the club’s under-14s in a semi-final tussle with GV Grammar.
Nash Berryman’s four goals and one to Couper Williams nearly inspired a gallant Rats to victory but couldn’t topple Grammar in a thrilling 7-5 result, drawing the curtain on a positive season for the junior side.
