Echuca has appointed club stalwart Simon Maddox to the role of A-grade skipper for the 2022-23 season, while Echuca South’s rebuild has continued with the addition of three experienced players to its squad.
Maddox takes over the role from Taylor Beard following his departure to Sandhurst as the Goulburn Murray Cricket A-grade premier’s campaign to defend its crown gets under way this weekend.
A flag winner with Echuca last season, Maddox’s association with the club stretches back 20 years and in a message through the club’s social media he said he was excited to see the talented youth of Echuca come through.
“We have a lot of home-grown talent that have come through our junior ranks,” Maddox said.
“Add in some experienced players and a couple of quality recruits and we are looking to a very successful year in A-grade.”
Echuca has bid farewell to GMC league best-and-fairest Beard, but has welcomed left-arm English paceman Ben Holt to the fray to bolster its bowling stocks.
Over at South Recreation Reserve, the Swans have welcomed back former A-grade captain Jayden Roisin alongside all-round duo Asantha Singappuli and Savindra Amaradasa.
Echuca South finished the 2021-22 season in last place and will be hoping to end a winless run stretching back to round 10 of the 2020-21 season.
Echuca faces Bamawm-Lockington United in a round one grand final rematch on Saturday, while Echuca South will have the first-up assignment of Kyabram Fire Brigade.
