The two fighters – based at Wickham’s Martial Arts on Hovell St – featured in Hardcore Promotion’s latest event in Keilor Park, with the duo stepping from the squared circle triumphant.
As one of the biggest names in the muay Thai community, it was no surprise that Eikkasit’s fight was the main event of the evening.
As befitting the biggest fight of the night, Eikkasit made an extravagant entrance to the ring that featured pyrotechnics and a ride on an impressive custom motorcycle.
Once he stepped into the ring, it was all business for the seasoned fighter. Scheduled to fight for five rounds, he needed just two to defeat his opponent, Salvatore Signorino, by technical knockout.
It is the latest win in a long and storied career for Eikkasit. The Thai national started fighting when he was young and has featured in so many bouts he has lost count — but he estimates the number to be at least 200.
Earlier in the evening, Matthews claimed a win over his opponent, Quang Pham, via split decision.
It is the latest victory in Matthews’ young career. The 19-year-old took part in his first professional fight in September 2021, and now has a 5-3 record.
His win comes off the back of a strong performance at the Roots 18: Kaya eight-man eliminator in May. Matthews took part in three fights on the night, winning two before losing the final.
Both Eikkasit and Matthews will return to the ring later this year when they take part in Rebellion Muay Thai’s next event.
