Lane, 24, who has since moved to Melbourne, has been selected as one of six members of the women’s 4x100m relay squad to compete in Budapest, with the heats for the event getting under way in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Recording a time of 11.41 seconds over 100m at the Illawarra Track Challenge in Wollongong in January, Lane is the sixth-fastest Australian woman this calendar year over the distance.
In a comment on the Echuca Moama Little Athletics Facebook page following her national team selection, Lane encouraged anyone starting out at Little Aths to persevere with the dream.
“Echuca Moama Little Athletics Club holds a huge place in my heart,” she wrote.
“I suggest anyone currently doing Little Athletics to keep working at your dreams! I was never the best, I never won, but I persisted and now I’m about to represent the green and gold.”
Lane recorded a personal best time of 11.35 seconds across 100m in 2021, however it is not considered ‘legal’ due to a strong tailwind, meaning her fastest official time stands at 11.39 seconds.
The heats for the women’s 4x100 will be held on Saturday, August 26, at 4am AEST, with the final to be held at 5.50am AEST on Sunday, August 27, with every session from the championships broadcast live on SBS Viceland.
