Despite rain in the area all four games got under way last weekend, and with sunny weather forecast for Saturday, the first two-day results look all but certain to be locked in.
Echuca is in a strong position in its clash against Leitchville-Gunbower, as it looks to earn its second win of the young season.
The Green Caps reached 8-198 last weekend, with youngster Archer Carlile the top scorer with 48 not out.
The hosts Echuca will likely turn to bowlers Rylea Jones and Brendan Moyle in their quest to defend their total, with the pair claiming three wickets each against Kyabram last round.
The Green Caps dismissed Kyabram for 196 in their one-day win, but with a number of catches hitting the deck, they will be hoping for some safer pairs of hands against the Bombers on Saturday.
Leitchville-Gunbower, meanwhile, will be looking to notch win number two with a second successive run chase, after reaching Bamawm-Lockington United’s total in the opening round.
At Bamawm, BLU and Echuca South will be battling it out to earn their first victory of the season.
South batted first and reached 7-112 on day one of play, with the Lions hoping to chase down the total on Saturday.
Jayden Rosin was South’s leading bat with 30, while three BLU bowlers — Amila Gunathilaka, Rathika Rajakumara and Regis Chakabva — each took two wickets.
Sotuth’s Shanaka Silva (19 not out) and Akila Senanayake (yet to score) will return to the crease, and if South can defend its total, it would be the club’s first A-grade win since the 2020-21 season.
BLU reached the grand final last season but the new campaign had a rocky start after a three-wicket loss to Leitchville-Gunbower.
It will be hoping for a good showing from star recruit and Zimbabwe international Chakabva, who made 33 in his BLU debut, as well as Liam Hamilton, who top scored with 55.
The Lions had a chaotic time between the wickets last round, with three batters run out against Leitchville-Gunbower, including both Hamilton and Chakabva.
At Northern Oval in Kyabram, Rochester will need to chase down 168 to earn victory over Kyabram Fire Bridgae.
Fire Brigade was in trouble early at 2-6, before knocks in the 40s from Brenton Campbel (44), Robert Salter (42) and Jake Gascoyne (43 not out) helped it reach 6-168 at the end of play.
Rochester made 173 in its run chase against Moama last round, a total that would see it earn victory over Fire Brigade if it can replicate it this weekend.
Nondies Cohuna will be gunning to claim an outright victory over Cooma this weekend, having already earned first innings points.
The hosts dismissed Cooma for just 67 last Saturday, and they have already surpassed that total after reaching 6/80 at the end of play.
Liam Scopelliti had a great knock of 40 for Cooma, but he was the only batter to reach double digits for his side.
Peter Moore was the pick of the bowlers for Nondies, taking 4-24 with four maidens from his 14 overs.
Rhys Bradley (23 not out) and Xavier Wishart (3 not out) will return to the crease for Nondies at Cohuna Recreation Reserve.
