Leitchville Gunbower is ruing another slow start to a game and some costly turnovers after suffering a disappointing 79-point loss to North Bendigo on Saturday.

The fast-starting Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead over the Bombers before kicking away in the second half, booting seven goals to the Bombers’ one on their way to a 17.19 (121) to 6.6. (42) victory.

L-G coach Tim Brannan said it was a disappointing result from his side, especially considering it was a game he thought it would have been more competitive in.

“At the end of the day it was a bad loss, it was a game I think we probably should have won,’’ Brannan said.

“Overall it wasn’t great, to be honest, it was a game we thought we had an opportunity to win.

“We just turned the ball over too much and that probably cost us five or six goals. They utilised the ball a lot better when it went inside their forward 50.”

In a small positive for the Bombers they were able to hold North Bendigo to just one goal in the last term, but by that point the damage on the scoreboard had already been done.

Brannan said Jobee Warde and Mitchell Candy were two of L-G’s best performers on the day, alongside Billy Hawken.

“Jobee is just a machine, he wins his own footy out of the ruck as well.

Mitch was really good again in the midfield, he is starting to work out his game, his game has gone to another level, he performed really well.

I thought Billy had a really good game, we pushed him through the midfield and I thought he did really well.“

The Bombers will now face undefeated Colbinabbin this weekend.
