Thirty-six cyclists appeared for the second Echuca-Moama Cycling Club summer criterium on Friday, with the winners headlined by one of the club’s talented juniors.
Up-and-coming junior cyclist Levi Hone stole the show in the club’s A-grade race, streaking away from the peloton to claim victory ahead of Kevin Laffy, who put in a typically strong ride to place second, while Kieran Schnieder followed in third.
Aaron McMaster jumped up into B-grade following his last-start C-grade triumph, vindicating the move with a comfortable win.
Debutant Nick McNair started well at his new club with a first-up second place, and Joel Pike rounded out the B-grade podium.
In C-grade, Nathan Whitten capped off his second race with a win ahead of Darren McKemmish (second) and Paul Oman (third).
Mel Smolenaars is eyeing a move up the ranks with a strong win in the D-grade race.
Returning to the fold from state duties was George Griffiths, who was just pipped by Smolenaars at the line. Brad Higgins made the journey from Shepparton to complete the podium.
