Against a side who was level on points going into the fixture, the Bombers proved themselves far superior on the day, blowing the Hawks away in the second half at Strauch Reserve.
The first two quarters were cagey and although L-G did one goal better in both, it held a very reachable 15-point lead at the major break.
However, the second half was a different story. The stifling Bombers’ defence did not let in a single goal for the remainder of the game and, with the attacking contingent managing four goals in the third quarter and two goals in the last, L-G cruised to victory, 13.10 (88) to 5.5 (35).
“We just adjusted a little bit behind the ball and spoke about more our go-forward,” coach Shannon Keam said.
“We thought we wasted a few opportunities in the first half. We just needed to adjust where we were kicking, probably a few more deeper entries (rather) than shallow entries, just a few little adjustments like that in the second half.
“I thought we had pretty good dominance in the midfield and, to be perfectly honest, we probably should have kicked a bigger score.
“We were pretty wasteful in our forward half, which has sort of been the tale of our story this year.”
Keam praised his defensive unit for the way it restricted Huntly, especially in the second half.
Christopher Horman led the goal-kickers for the Bombers, kicking four, while Caleb Hislop (three), Tom Brereton (two) and Fraser Buchanan (two) also kicked multiple majors.
Hislop’s efforts earned him best-on-ground honours for L-G, while Austin Windridge, Jye Keath, Will Brereton, Bradley Green and Joel Donehue were also recognised for their contributions.
The Bombers are now 4-3 and will face Mount Pleasant in the last home game at Gunbower for the year next weekend before the league goes on a general bye over the King’s Birthday weekend.

Leitchville-Gunbower’s A-grade netball side shook off its loss to ladder-leader White Hills the previous weekend by comfortably accounting for Huntly, 62-31.
It was a tight first quarter, with the Bombers narrowly getting the best of it 12-10, before L-G doubled its advantage to four at the main break.
The Bombers made their move in the second half, blowing the Hawks away to extend the lead to 16 at three-quarter time, and finally to 31 by the end of the fourth.
L-G (5-2) returned to third spot courtesy of the win and a bye for Colbinabbin.
The Bombers will be favourites against Mount Pleasant (2-5) before the general bye on June 8.
