Moama has continued its hot start to the season after dispatching Finley by 51 points on Saturday afternoon.
The Magpies are undefeated so far this year and kept hold of top spot on the Murray Football League ladder thanks to their 12.13 (85) to 5.4 (34) win over the Cats.
It was an important win for the Magpies, who faced their toughest challenge of the season so far at Finley Recreation Reserve.
Moama held the Cats scoreless in the first term, but its inaccuracy in front of goal meant it only held an 18-point lead at quarter-time after kicking 2.6.
Finley got on the board in the second quarter and kicked four goals to Moama’s three, trimming the deficit at half-time to 14 points.
But the Mapgies were able to kick it up a gear in the second half, kicking seven goals to Finley’s one to cruise to a comfortable win in the end.
Mitchell Lake, Joshua Vick, Brock Kennedy, Ned Osborne, Jordan Ives and Jack Russell were named as the best for the Magpies on the day.
lay McGregor and Christopher Horman were key for Moama in front of the big sticks, with the pair booting three goals each.
Fraser Buchanan was the Mapgies’ other multi-goal scorer with two, while Joshua Pell, Sam Sheldon, Brock Kennedy and Jobe Shanahan each chimed in with one major.
Moama is one of five undefeated teams in the MFL this season, alongside Cobram, Tongala, Mulwala and Deniliquin.
For Finley, it was its fourth defeat of 2022, with the Cats yet to taste victory this season.
The Cats are among five teams still yet to win a game in the MFL, with Rumbalara, Nathalia, Barooga and Echuca United all still chasing their first victories.
Finley can take some solace from its loss at the weekend, after holding Moama to its lowest score and restricting it to its narrowest winning margin of the season so far.
