MFL | Tongala falls to Nathalia in third straight defeat

Tongala slid to another upset defeat at the weekend, this time against a resurgent Nathalia outfit on the march back up the Murray Football League ladder.

The Blues were slow off the mark against the Purples, conceding five goals in the first stanza out at Nathalia Recreation Reserve.

Both sides managed a goal apiece in the second term to hand Nathalia a 19-point buffer at half-time.

But Tongala showed its class in the third quarter, keeping the Purples goalless to draw back within seven points at the final break.

Inklings of a comeback win were quickly put to bed in the fourth quarter, however, with the Purples booting four goals to pull away to their fourth win of the season.

Jack Hammond, Corey Nexhip and Nicholas Jamieson battled hard, but Glenn Boyd’s four goals and starring performances from Brodie Ross, Clancy Congues and Alex Hicks cancelled out the Blues’ hopes of victory.

The win marks a significant turnaround for the five-time reigning premiers, who have rebounded from four straight losses at the start of the year to sit two games outside of the top six.

Meanwhile, the Blues find themselves in an unfamiliar form slump.

Dropping three straight games after winning 20 on the trot, Tongala will be looking to snap a rare losing streak against Barooga this Saturday.
