Echuca’s sides have continued an excellent start to the Goulburn Valley League season, the Murray Bombers winning the match-ups against Benalla, 10.17 (77) to 6.4 (40) in senior football and triumphing 59-12 in A-grade netball.
In the Murray league, Moama’s football side was valiant in defeat to Congupna, going down 10.10 (70) to 16.6 (102), while its netball outfit made it two wins from two with a convincing 55-17 victory.
Elsewhere, Tongala split the results against Numurkah, losing in a low-scoring affair in football, 9.6 (60) to 5.11 (41), but gaining an important 60-44 win in the netball.
Heathcote District Football Netball League also began on Saturday, with Leitchville-Gunbower and Lockington Bamawm United in action.
The Bombers narrowly lost to reigning premier Mount Pleasant in senior football, 10.8 (68) to 10.13 (73), while the margin was far greater in the netball, the Mighty Mounts prevailing 83-24.
Meanwhile, Lockington claimed a huge scalp in the footy, defeating last year’s runner-up North Bendigo 9.10 (64) to 8.12 (60), but it was unable to complete the sweep, as the A-grade netball outfit lost 51-41.
Finally, Picola United and Mathoura began their Picola District Football Netball League seasons, with the Blues having a perfect day at the office against Katunga, winning 16.14 (110) to 8.5 (53) in the football and 39-29 in netball.
The same couldn’t be said for Mathoura, as the Timbercutters suffered two heavy defeats to Deniliquin Rovers, the football side losing 18.12 (120) to 4.4 (28), while A-grade netball went down 62-5.
