The Magpies got off to a great start defensively, limiting Congupna early and steadily building their lead as they cruised to a 37-goal triumph.
“We were very, very strong from the get-go,” Moama coach Lisa Drysdale said.
“We mixed things up with our defensive line-up and we had Jodie Lake starting in wing defence and her presence in the midcourt was amazing.
“We put a lot of pressure on Congupna. We held them scoreless for quite a while, so it was a very strong start.”
With finals already locked in, Drysdale said one of the goals for the day was to see her side boost its positivity.
“Our focus was on being really positive,” she said.
"Even if someone created a turnover and lost the ball, it was about how they adapted and what they did next to get back into the game.
“It worked really well. Instead of dropping our heads, the positivity out there was amazing.
“I think that we had fun yesterday. Everyone really enjoyed their netball and that’s what we want to play for.”
Drysdale said Steph Watson won the team positivity award on the day while also earning best-on-court honours, with a young debutant also putting in an impressive performance.
“Eden Drennan from the under-17s stepped up and took the court in her A-grade debut. She played like a senior player, it was great to see,” Drysdale said.
“She shot beautifully and held her own physically against two strong Congupna defenders.”
The result means Congupna is now on the brink of being eliminated from Murray League contention.
With two rounds left to play, the Road sit in eighth spot on the ladder, two games behind Mulwala.
The Lions had the week off thanks to the split round, but a win over Echuca United this Saturday would mean Congupna’s finals hopes are officially extinguished.
Meanwhile for the Magpies, the four points means they still have a chance of finishing in the top three.
They are level on points with Nathalia, which has a game in hand, but with the two sides to face off in round 17 and the Purples still to face second-placed Rumbalara, Moama could move into third before the season’s end.
