Moama has continued its early-season resurgence, with its third-straight win on Saturday coming at the expense of Barooga.

The Magpies overcame a sluggish start in the first quarter to eventually cruise to a strong 47-24 win.

Moama A-grade coach Lisa Drysdale said she was pleased with her side’s result, despite the tough first term that only had it ahead of Barooga by two goals.

“We are very happy with the win,” Drysdale said.

“It was a bit slow starting. We had a lot of unforced errors in the first quarter.

“We just couldn’t pull away. We had control of the game, but the scoreline didn’t show that.”

Moama was able to kick things up a gear in the second quarter, building a 14-goal lead at half-time.

Its supremacy carried on into the second half as it earned its third win of the season.

Drysdale said defender Tiarna Steele and centre Charlotte Sheldon were the Magpies’ top performers on the day.

The Magpies’ coach said she was impressed with her side’s defensive effort on Saturday, but there was still room for improvement overall.

“Defensively down the court, the girls were amazing,” she said.

“There was a lot of defensive pressure, that was fantastic.”

“I still think there is a lot more we can give in games, I don’t think we have that full team cohesion yet.

“I think we have to work together on understanding the way each other plays.”

Saturday’s win caps off a crucial three-game stretch for Moama.

After back-to-back losses to start the year against top sides Nathalia and Rumbalara, Drysdale identified the past three games as must-wins for her side.

The Magpies achieved that goal with wins over Echuca United, Finley and now Barooga, but they will face tougher opponents over the next month.

Moama (3-2) will face off against Tongala (4-1) this weekend, with games against Mulwala (3-2) and Rumbalara (4-1) also coming up.
