The Goulburn Murray Women’s and Girls League saw the Mowers women’s side roll to a comfortable result, while the girls prevailed after one of the tougher tests of their season.
Women
Moama took on a Friday trip to Nathalia, battling the Purples at Nathalia Recreation Reserve at a 7pm start.
Both sides took a while to find their feet, with only one goal scored in the quarter, Moama leading 8-0 at the first break.
The Mowers found their form in the second while continuing to hold Nathalia scoreless, adding three further goals to be up 28-0 at half-time.
Nathalia broke the shackles after the break, finding its first and only major in the third term, matching Moama’s output in the quarter, but the Mowers would again surge late to put the capper on a 7.6 (48) to 1.0 (6) win.
Shaleah Cooper and Sienna Lee both slotted two goals for Moama, while Savannah Emery, Ruby McLeod and Tori Russell found one each.
Moama (8-1) has a two-game buffer in second place over its nearest chaser, sitting a win back from the unbeaten leader Shepparton United.
The Mowers are in action on Sunday, on the road at Mansfield Recreation Reserve.
Girls
Tabatha Ingham and Sophie Millar were the spirit of the game winners in the girls match.
Shepparton United posed a significant challenge to a Moama girls side that had been on somewhat of a cakewalk through the competition.
In fact, the Demons jumped to the lead at Deakin Reserve on Sunday, winning the first quarter two goals to one for a four-point edge.
Moama mostly seized control the rest of the way, but had to fight for every point in the low-scoring duel.
The Mowers got their noses in front 22-12 at half-time and the second half turned into a rewardless grind, with neither side able to find the goal cleanly.
Moama eventually went home with the win 3.7 (25) to 2.3 (15), staying perfect for the season, now 7-1-0.
That draw was added earlier this month after the Mowers’ previous game.
An originally rescheduled round one meeting with Nathalia was called off entirely, the club’s split of the points the only minor blemish on the Mowers’ stellar record.
Moama continues a broken stretch of play that will include three weeks off out of four, having another bye this week before returning to the field on July 12, at home against Cobram.
