Picola grabs second big win

Tom Byrnes snagged a goal for Picola United in its second consecutive win to start the year.

Picola United picked up another strong result to begin its 2026 season in the Picola District Football League, downing Rennie by 56 in round two.

On home turf at Picola Recreation Reserve for the first time this year, the Blues sent the crowd home happy with a consistent four-quarter performance.

Rennie showed the most resistance in the opening term, mostly keeping the Blues in reach, Picola taking an 11-point lead into the first break 36-25.

The Blues began to stretch things in the second, their defence leading the way to keep the Grasshoppers to one goal in the period, while the attacking end found three.

It was more of the same after the break, with Rennie held to four goals for the half, while Picola piled on eight more to seal the significant win, 16.16 (112) to 9.2 (56).

Jack Hutchin had a day out in front of goal for the Blues, kicking seven while also heading up the best-on list.

Picola is in the middle of the pack when it comes to 2-0 sides currently fourth of seven undefeated outfits.

The Blues will be a strong favourite to continue the run against an 0-2 Mathoura this weekend.
