Support for transitioning students thanks to Gannawarra booklet

PARENTS and guardians of children beginning primary and secondary school education in 2021 will benefit from the publication of the fourth edition of Gannawarra Shire Council’s School Transition in Gannawarra booklet. The 2020 edition of the 32-page booklet provides information on all primary and secondary schools located within the Gannawarra region.“First developed in 2017, this transition booklet is a partnership between the council, children and youth service providers as well as pre-schools, primary and secondary schools across the Gannawarra,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.“The booklet allows schools across the shire to communicate their strengths to potential students by outlaying their philosophies and values, facilities, subjects and electives offered.”The theme of resilience is incorporated in the 2020 publication, which Cr Learmonth highlighted during the booklet’s launch recently.“Transitions are successful when children and young people feel confident, secure and included,” Cr Learmonth said.“The booklet therefore includes information to support mental health and wellbeing and provides practical tips for building resilience of both children and teenagers.“We are fortunate at Gannawarra to have great choice in services and schools that not only support the education of our local children but also foster positive experiences and a nurturing environment for children to develop confidence, social skills and healthy life habits.”All children enrolling in prep or year 7 in 2021 will receive a copy of the School Transition in Gannawarragsc.vic.gov.au booklet and parents and guardians are encouraged to contact individual schools for further information.Copies of the booklet are also available online at and by phoning the council on 5450 9333.
