Hazel Radley, 83, was one of 16 community heroes honoured with the COTA Senior Achiever Award for her work with Cohuna Neighbourhood House and the Uniting Church outreach programs.
Ms Radley, who first started volunteering at Cohuna Village in 1972, said the award was a welcome surprise.
“I’m very humbled I was chosen but at the same time I’m very proud that I was able to represent Cohuna,” she said.
“Usually when you volunteer you just do your part and don’t expect any accolades.”
Ms Radley said he will continue to serve her community for as long as she can.
“My one thought as I stood there waiting to receive my award was that for a few minutes of that day, Cohuna was on the map,” she said.
“I love people, I watch out for people and I care for people. I make sure that they receive some kindness in their lives.
