Eagles hammered home the message on the biggest day

By Brayden May

ECHUCA United’s C grade netballers have been the best team all season – and they were right on song again today.

The Eagles finished 2019 with a perfect record following a 13-goal victory over Mulwala in the Murray Netball League decider.

Across the court, the Eagles got the better of her opponents and once they extended their lead into double digits early in the third term they didn’t look back.

“I’m so proud of the girls, they’ve put in so much hard work to win a premiership,” United coach Caity Loury said.

“Mulwala are an awesome side who are always difficult to play against. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but I thought we saved our best for last.

“Games like that can turn around really quickly so we had to make sure we maintained our momentum and didn’t slow down.

“But having a strong lead certainly did make us feel a lot better.”

While the win was still raw, Loury took a moment to reflect on just how far her team has come this season.

“They have been such an awesome group of girls to work with,” she said.

“We’ve got a lot of netball smarts in the team, so it has been great to learn off each other throughout the year.

“When we turned up to training it was always about fine tuning our skills for the biggest moments and we capitalized on those on Saturday.”

Hayley Saville was named the best player on the court by the umpires.
