The new car parks are aimed at enhancing access and reducing barriers to receiving care for members of the community.
“For a long time, the health service has delivered outpatient community health from the Hopwood Centre building in Leichardt St, and as the service grows it is important to continue to revisit the safety and functionality of the buildings,” community services executive director Cynthia Opie said.
“Since 2017, the allied health team has been delivering National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) services to the community; a service that has grown to support over 250 people with disability.
“Now, with ERH as a registered NDIS provider, coupled with the enormous number of people receiving community healthcare, including the ageing population, it was important to ensure access to the Hopwood Centre was meeting community need.”
Having identified that access for people with a disability or functional needs was compromised by a lack of designated parking, ERH contacted Campaspe Shire Council for its support.
Campaspe Shire Mayor Chrissy Weller said they were only too happy to assist ERH in its endeavours.
“To provide inclusion and functionality for residents with disabilities is something we, as a council, take tremendous pride in,” she said.
“Our staff actively worked with ERH to understand the community needs and develop a solution. The outcome has been well received.”
Mrs Opie thanked Campaspe Shire “for hearing our plea and supporting our vision to support everyone to access healthcare in our community”.
