The Wilmot Rd Community Hub leader doesn’t like to see disadvantaged community members who can’t afford to buy clothes for their families miss out.
However, the free clothes event, which will be held on June 26 and 27 this year, will be open to everyone, not just the disadvantaged, to come and stuff a bag — or multiple bags — full of garment treasures.
“There are no limits on how many items you can take home,” Ms Pearson said.
“You can return as many times as you like over the two days; bring a friend.”
Now in its fourth year, the event has outgrown the small hub space that has transformed into a makeshift op shop each year.
Ms Pearson said she had to pile so many clothes up on tables last year that there were occasional clothing avalanches as the 206 visitors hunted through the items.
There were so many donations that she couldn’t put them all out at the start of the event and instead replenished the tables regularly, which is why she encourages people to stop by more than once.
This year, the event will be in a new space with more floor space, allowing better browsing for visitors.
“We’re very lucky this year that our new principal is letting us use the school hall for our event,” Ms Pearson said.
“We’ll have lots of space for more tables.”
She is now calling on the community for donations to fill those tables.
“We are looking for donations of men’s, women’s and children’s clothing in good condition, no rips, stains or pet hair please,” Ms Pearson said.
“We can’t accept toys, books or anything electrical, but we will also take blankets in good condition.”
If your wardrobe or linen press needs a cull, now is the perfect time to get sorting.
Donations can be dropped off during school hours at the hub (inside the grounds of Wilmot Rd Primary School, to the left of the main building) from May 7 to June 13.
Ms Pearson said clothing left over from the event would be donated back to other community charities or places in need.
Last year, it went to Primary Care Connect, which paid it forward again to the people of Papua New Guinea who’d experienced an environmental crisis.
Donations can be made between May 7 and June 13. The free clothing event will be held on June 26 and June 27 behind the hub in the Wilmot Rd Primary School hall, 84 Wilmot Rd, Shepparton.
