Blake Azzopardi was Picola United’s best against Katamatite.

A run of three consecutive victories for Picola United was ended on Saturday, the Blues downed by top-four Picola District Football League opponent Katamatite.

The Tigers had a small lead at the half, but kicked on in the second hour to double Picola’s score in a 12.12 (84) to 6.6 (42) win.

The Blues went goalless in the first period at Picola Recreation Reserve, but restricted Katamatite to two goals to stay within touch.

Picola was feeling well in the contest at half-time after kicking four goals to three in the second period to go into the main break eight points down, 5.5 (35) to 4.3 (27).

However, the Blues again struggled to start a half, finding just three behinds in the third quarter, while Katamatite continued its consistent scoring with another three majors.

Picola would return to the goals column in the fourth term, but the Tigers surged further ahead, winning it four goals to two.

Cody Haub and Blake Jorgensen slotted two goals each for Picola, while Mitchell Coleman was Katamatite’s best with four.

After the league bye this weekend, Picola United (8-4) returns to action at Katandra Recreation Reserve against another of the league’s top four.

The Kats (11-1) will provide another litmus test for the Blues, who look secure in their finals status, but will be hoping to make inroads against the top sides.

Picola is level on points with fifth-placed Tungamah and one win back from Berrigan in fourth, but has played one fewer game than both sides.
