Echuca Paramount will set the stage on Saturday, October 25, where all will be revealed.
The categories in which Mamma Mia! got the nod include best musical, achievement in direction, choreography, set design, wardrobe, lightning design, vocal direction and excellence in artistic design.
“I was pretty stoked,” co-director Mark Thomson said.
“A lot of work goes in by a lot of people, like cast and production team, and it’s great to just be recognised.
“That sort of validates the hard work that everyone’s done.”
Individual performers who have been recognised include Alisha Beavis (Donna) for best performance, Matt McLindon (Sam) for best supporting performance and Genevieve McLindon (Sophie) for best junior performance in a senior show.
Father-daughter duo Matt and Gen McLindon will also go head-to-head, receiving nominations for best singing performance.
Mr Thomson is chuffed to see so many nominations in a year that is particularly special for EMTC.
“It being held in Echuca and also in our 50th year, it’s like a double whammy,” he said.
“We’re very, very happy with it all.
“It’s been a while since we’ve had this many.”
The Georgy Awards take in musical and theatre companies from as far as Albury-Wodonga, Seymour and Mansfield.
EMTC is up against some tough competition, with Albury Wodonga Theatre Company’s Come From Away and Shepparton Theatre Arts Group’s Chicago similarly making a mark in the nominations.
“It’s always competitive, and that’s what it should be, too,” Mr Thomson said.
“Everyone’s wanting to do a good show nowadays, and the stakes get raised every year, I think.”
As host company, two of EMTC’s stars, Alisha Beavis and Darcy Elliott (Harry, Mamma Mia!), will emcee the night.
The rest of the Mamma Mia! cast will also return to the stage for a performance, with visiting companies set to bring a taste of their talent, too.
“They’re doing a couple of musical numbers,” Mr Thomson said.
“Usually, the Georgy judges nominate about half a dozen performances from groups around the catchment area.”
All are welcome to attend the awards night, with tickets available on the Echuca Paramount website.
Mr Thomson hopes to see a strong local contingent backing EMTC’s special night.
“It'd be great to see a full house of people supporting local community theatre,” he said.
