For two consecutive years, the school has been crowned Victoria’s Large Training Provider of the Year, as well as receiving Trainer of the Year awards.
Victorian Skills and TAFE Minister Gayle Tierney visited the Echuca campus on Wednesday, September 24, to celebrate its success.
“Bendigo Kangan Institute of TAFE is a shining example of Victoria’s world-class TAFEs, and it is no surprise that it has won the prestigious ... award for a second time,” she said.
“We are proud to back regional TAFEs to deliver vocational education across the state, so that all Victorians can access high-quality training close to home.”
Community and justice teacher Tami A’Vard was named Teacher/Trainer of the Year and recognised for initiatives that had opened new pathways for careers in justice.
Standout innovations include introducing excursions and case simulations, which have boosted the students’ confidence and job readiness.

“We go to courts and prisons so students can actually see the space where they might choose to work,” Ms A’Vard said.
“My secret weapon for keeping students engaged is my authenticity — showing up and being a learner alongside my students.”
Ms A’Vard felt “deeply honoured” to receive the award, and recognised vocational education’s power to transform lives and strengthen communities.
Meanwhile, Bendigo TAFE will welcome a new chief executive on Monday, October 20, replacing interim chief executive Janelle Arena.
Laura Macpherson will take the helm after leading TAFE Gippsland through a period of growth and increased influence in the education sector.
TAFE is one of Victoria’s largest training providers, educating over 37,000 students each year across its nine campuses.
