Two Torrumbarry businesses ‒ Lynn Mason’s Wisps of Wool and Nicole and Rob Weightman’s Goolwa River Retreat ‒ are up for accommodation awards.
Mayor Daniel Mackrell’s business, My Coffee Cart, has also been named a finalist in its respective category.
The council was recognised in the Local Government Tourism category for its outstanding contribution to the region’s visitor economy.
The awards, presented by the Victorian Tourism Industry Council, celebrate excellence, innovation and collaboration in the tourism sector.
To be named a finalist, entrants must meet a rigorous benchmark, achieving a minimum score of 70 per cent in their submission which encompasses a digital review, consumer rating and site visit.
To support local tourism operators, the council hosted a formal awards mentoring program that was designed to support those entering the awards for the first time.
Under the guidance of tourism industry specialist trainer Karen Oliver, the three aforementioned businesses were successfully named as finalists.
Director of communities Jo Bradshaw commended the council’s tourism team for its efforts.
“This recognition is a testament not only to the hard work of our tourism team but also to the strength of our local operators,” she said.
“We’re proud to have supported these businesses through the dedicated awards mentoring program and look forward to celebrating their success at the awards night.”
The finalists will be honoured at the VTA Gala Ceremony on Thursday, November 27 in Melbourne, where over 900 industry professionals will meet.
