Lockington-Bamawm United got on the board in Heathcote District League netball, overcoming a stiff challenge from Leitchville Gunbower.
On a big day for the club on the football field, the Cats’ A-graders made their own contribution to the marquee weekend, scoring their first win of the season in an almighty battle with the Bombers.
Lockington had the best of the first quarter, taking a 16-13 lead into the first break, but the Bombers responded well in the second, levelling the scores at 29 by half-time.
Both teams had their chances to claim it in the second half, but it was the Cats who held their nerve and surged to the win, 56-52.
The victory pushes the Cats up into seventh spot on the table, now 1-4 for the year.
Leitchville-Gunbower sits half a game ahead after a 1-1-2 start.
Lockington will hope to continue its momentum into this weekend’s game, the Cats travelling to Huntly to take on the Hawks (1-1-2).
The Bombers are in for an even sterner test next time out, battling the unbeaten league leader and defending premier Colbinabbin.
