The ‘Nature Speaks’ Art Prize celebrates a variety of practices, including painting, drawing, sculpture and textile art, encompassing expressions of nature in art and socially and ecologically motivated works relating to our challenging, changing natural environment.
With their entry, artists are asked to submit a written commentary of their work and how it responds to the theme.
“What we envisage is that it might be a celebration of nature in all its beauty,” Arts Prize committee chair Sue Harrison said.
“Or it might be a commentary about the catastrophe that is last summer ― the 45-degree days, climate change, and how nature is responding to a changing world.”
This year’s competition features a huge cash prize pool, with the overall winner to receive $2500, followed by $750 for the runner-up, while the Local Artist, People’s Choice and Hangers’ Prizes will each be awarded $500.
The Art Prize is open to all artists, though local artists and people from across regional Victoria in particular are encouraged to enter.
Artists have until Tuesday, June 30 to enter in the Art Prize, with entries priced at $25 for foundry members and $30 for non-members.
Works will be showcased in the public exhibition from July 17 to August 16.
Paper entry forms are available at The Foundry Arts Space, located at 13-17 Murray Esplanade, Echuca, and digital forms via its website at thefoundryartsspace.org.au/art-prize
