Petals with purpose: Renato’s backing Daffodil Day again

After more than four decades, an iconic florist in Shepparton is still choosing to serve the community and raise vital funds for cancer care.

Renato’s Florist has been part of Daffodil Day in Shepparton for all 45 years of the business, with current owners, Leeanne and Glenn Archer, hoping to continue that tradition for years to come.

“It’s just nice to still be able to contribute to the community,” Leeanne said.

Last year, a partnership between the GV Health Foundation and Renato’s flourished.

All proceeds from daffodil sales at the florist on Daffodil Day were donated to the GV Health Foundation, along with pre-wrapped bunches as part of the hospital’s own fundraising push.

That partnership is here to stay as Renato’s wants to invest locally to support the region’s own hospital.

“That’s sort of what we’re planning on doing this year,” Leeanne said.

“They sold out of bunches within an hour last year, so they’re probably going to want more.”

The partnership comes down to more than just the day itself, but more serves to highlight what the GV Health Foundation is doing for the region.

“I think it’s great to be able to support the Cancer Council but also to target our local people,” Leeanne said.

While the owners have not set a fundraising goal yet, Leeanne is hoping to top last year’s effort of $700.

“That would be ideal,” she said.

The florist is expecting a delivery of approximately 200 to 250 bunches of daffodils on August 18, which will be available for pre-order through the florist or bought in-store on August 20.

Each bunch will contain five stems, priced at $5 or $6.

Renato’s Florist will be open its standard hours of 8am to 5pm on Daffodil Day, giving locals plenty of opportunity to grab a bunch and support the cause.
