No roads commitment from One Nation, website offered instead

One Nation has refused to commit to a specific funding policy to address Victoria’s deteriorating roads and instead has offered a website that will publicise details of government contracts.

The party’s stance comes after the Coalition commitment of $5 billion over four years, an increase on current spending by $250 million per year.

The Labor Party has not committed to a broader election policy, but the government has made a one-off payment of $352 million to address potholes across Victoria.

At a candidate launch in Seymour on Sunday, September 13, state Member for Northern Victoria Rikkie-Lee Tyrrell said One Nation was unable to commit funding until it was able to see the government’s finances.

Instead, it would provide details of all government contracts and tendering bids on a publicly available website.

The website, YourMoney.vic.gov.au, would publish every business case, tender, winning contract, original price, variation and the name of the person who signed the contract.

This would eliminate ‘commercial in confidence’, which is an agreement made in a contract to protect information that may undermine competitiveness.

Ms Tyrrell said that she did not believe that publishing contract details would negatively impact the government’s ability to secure contracts.

The commitment was made in a post on One Nation’s website by Victorian state candidate for the Northern Metropolitan Region Mark Nicholson, which criticised the amount the government was spending per pothole.
