Now, the Echuca Water Tower has nearly been dismantled ― with surrounding roads expected to reopen as early as October 23.
Coliban Water has decided to pause the final stage of demolition, with the remaining work to be completed using different equipment and a revised traffic management approach.
The decision is aimed at keeping disruption to a minimum for local businesses, residents and visitors as the busy pre-Christmas trading period approaches.
Coliban Water said feedback from business owners during early engagement highlighted the importance of maintaining access during the critical trading period.
Subject to weather and site conditions, all road closures associated with the project are expected to be removed as early as Friday, October 23.
Before reopening, crews will complete minor footpath repairs, clean up the site, install a secure fence and remove traffic management measures.
The remaining demolition work will be planned in consultation with council and other stakeholders, with the aim of reducing its impact on traffic, businesses and the wider community.
Built from an estimated 646 tonnes of reinforced concrete, a significant volume has already been removed for crushing and recycling — with most of the material expected to be recycled and repurposed.
Residents and road users should be aware some construction activity, traffic management measures and vehicle movements will remain in place during the project's final stages.
Coliban Water thanked nearby residents, businesses and road users for their patience and understanding throughout the works.
