Moama's Morrisons Winery receives recognition

Morrisons Riverview Winery in Moama has received a nomination for the 2021 Prime Super Business Innovation Award from an anonymous member of the community.

Morrisons manager Eleisha Catalano was pleasantly surprised by the nomination.

“It was unexpected,” Ms Catalano said.

“We were nominated anonymously, and so the recognition was nice after the year we've had with COVID.”

Like many border businesses, Morrisons has faced closures and cancellations during the COVID-19 pandemic, with constantly changing restrictions hurting its wedding season between August and May.

“It's been a quiet year, and I hope that people will come out and see us again,” Ms Catalano said.

The four varieties of grape from the Morrisons Winery are transformed into wine locally and then returned to the winery.

“We'd love more locals to come out; we find that locals forget that we're here until they have out-of-town people,” Ms Catalano said.

“I think the local support is important."

Morrisons Winery opened to the public with its cellar door in 2002, and has since opened its restaurant and wedding venue space to a broader audience, with the 15-acre vineyard being a major drawcard for wedding photographers.

“You look down the rows [of vines], and there's just something about it,” Ms Catalano said.
